Gay Marrige and Adoption

This year we had an opinion piece on gay marriage. Firstly, I would like to say to Maine I am surprised and overwhelmed that gay marriage was passed. I am very proud of Maine for not being the prejudice jerks I thought us to be. I now officially think differently about Maine and the people who live in Maine. Secondly, I think that all people whether they are gay, lesbian, straight or bisexual should all have the chance to get married. I think that everybody should have the joy of being married. Also, the joy of getting divorced if they made the wrong decision. If straight people get to go through with all the pain and agony of marriage and/or divorce why shouldn't every single other person on this earth??? That is my opinion.

Now if we could get it so everybody could adopt a child if they are eligible that would be nice. Many adoption agencies ask a person if they are homosexual or heterosexual. Should it matter? If a person can be an good or amazing parent then why should it matter??? There are so many parents out there that have children of their own or that they adopt that are abused. Everyday more and more children go into the adoption program. There need to be more and more gone into adoption. This is an opinion piece I would like to write more about.

"Freedom is Slavery" George Orwell quote

"Freedom is Slavery"

By: George Orwell
(1984 a book)

I think that this quote is very true. I think that the United States say we have "freedom" I think that is not true! I think that the USA is not free. We have so many laws and regulations. I am glad that we have all those in place I truly am, but the government telling us that we are free is NOT true. I think that the government should say we have rules and regulations that are set in place to make out country safer. So I think the USA still has slavery in some ways. People are still having to abide by rules that should not have to be. Also, there are slaves all around the country because people are still obeying what other people say and not getting what they need.

Reflection over junior year

I think that this year has been a interesting year in our junior/senior English class. There have been many zany moments. I remember when some of the boys kept saying "I'm a deer" that was always funny. I also, remember all the discussions that we have had about many different things; especially our Opinion Pieces. We have had a couple of Opinion Pieces this year and not all were joyful but there were some that we all had our own opinion about.

We read a total of four books
this year. I did not love any of them, but that is just me. Did you? Anyway, they were all different books about all different subjects except they had all been banned. I thought it was kinda awkward that the juniors and seniors were together it made it a little more difficult I think. But, I loved it. Our student teacher Ms. G was a really nice person, she was also funny.

Fahrenheit 451 quote

Fahrenheit 451

"Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories."

By: Ray Bradbury

I picked this quote because I think that it relates to this book in many ways. I think that this relates to the book of Fahrenheit 451 because almost every person in the book is brainwashed. The government in this book is very totalitarian. The government doesn't want anybody to have a "true" dream. In this book they have "Shells" which for us are called headphones. They listen to the shells when they sleep. People do not usually wonder what is right or wrong. At the beginning of this book there was a girl named Clarisse. Clarisse was always talking about what she thought and she questioned the government. Clarisse ended up disaprearing. Montag (the main character) starts to question the government as well. When Clarisse disappears he thinks more about it. He wonders why people are forbidden to read novels and books.

Montag finds a man named Faber. Faber is an old man who used to teach English and literature. Montag goes to him for advice. Faber explains to him that he has hopes and dreams of what may happen in the future. He also says that with Montag's help he can succeed in making his dreams come true. Montag has similar dreams as Faber. Montag loves to read and wants others to know how it feels to read. The quote says to live life to its fullest and Montag is now starting to do so. The quote also says that the dreams you make up for yourself are better than any that someone could make for you. Montag's wife Mildred calls the T.V. "family". She believes this because that is what she was told to believe. Mildred also wears the "shell" to bed.

I picked this quote because it drew me into it. To me when you dream your dream says something. Dreams tell you what you hope for, or maybe what will happen; sometimes a dream may even tell you what you are scared of. The quote tells you "live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds." To me that means that he is saying to do what you want before you cannot do so anymore. Don't be scared to take a chance. "It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories," to me that part means that your dreams, hopes, and fears mean more than what you could ever be told.

Favortie(ish) Book this year

This year we read four books. Truth to be told I did not like most of them all that much. So I am going to pick The Crucible by Arthur Miller. This book was based on the time of the Salem Witch Trials, in Massachusetts. Betty was found in her bed in a rambling coma. Her father Reverend Parris is worried that the town will find out and start rumors. There is a girl named Abbigal (Abby) and she is in love with an older man named John Proctor. John goes into the bedroom to see how Betty is doing and he gets suduced by Abby. What most of the town does not know is that John and Abby had a "relationship" not to long ago. When Betty, Abby and a few other girls are alone in Bettty's room Betty starts to ramble about the night before and how they were in the woods doing evil with Tituba and she was going to tell. Abby did not want anybody to know so she hit Betty. Then, Betty started to ramble about how she was going to go and fly to her dead mother.

The girls got accused of doing the devils work so to save thier lives the girls started rambling about how women were witches and they were coming to them in their sleep, and making them do what they had been doing. Abby took it to another level and used the accusations for her own good and had Mary Warren give a doll to Elizabeth Proctor (John Proctor's wife). The doll was found by a person of the court and she was taken away to the jail. Abby wanted John to herself and this was the best way she could think of doing so.
In the end of the book some of the "witches" are hung but not the main characters. Thanks to their husbands.

I enjoyed this book because I enjoy the past. I think that everybody can learn from their past and the past of the world. This book was based on the Salem Witch Trails and I think that that is one of the top ten imporant things that everybody should learn about. I think that this book teaches me and other people that one single lie no matter how small or how large can affect the lives of the people around you.

I am trying to teach my son not to lie. No matter how much trouble he ever gets into I always want him to come to me and his dad. I think that if I teach him this we will have a better relationship that I had with my parents. If I tell the whole truth to my son, I hope he will do the same for me.

Revisiting Opinion Piece

I am going to revisit Opinion Piece #4. It was about teenagers having cosmetic surgery before they turn eighteen. In a way I do not think it is right for a teenager to have surgery, but in a way I do. I think that if they need it because of a deformity than yes they should get it if they want it. Another way I think a teenager should get surgery is if it affects their life to the point where they can't focus during school or gets picked on by other students then yes they should be aloud to have surgery. A teen can get traumatized from evil self-centered classmates. I know that if I had a daughter that got terrorized like some of the students here at my school I would probably have her go to a councilor and see if she should get surgery and benefit from it.
2006 poll

Although, if a teenage girl is gettin
g something like a breast implant, nose surgery or something amongst that nature then I think that the teenager should go to counseling. Over all I think that every teen that wants surgery should go to a councilor before they get to have surgery, and have the counselor say yes or no.

Opinion pieces for next year...............

I think that next year I would like to discuss more about teen issues. Such as teen pregnancy, drugs, death and life in general as a teen. Maybe even as a college student or right out of high school. I would like to discuss about the rise of drug use in middle school children, and how teens are having sex younger and younger; how so many people are having abortions.... I would like to write about how teens want the age for alcohol and smoking cigarettes. I think that we should write and discuss things that are going on with us. We are teens why not write about what we think about ourselves.
I mainly want to talk about teen pregnancy and the issues around them. Such as how they are treated and what choices they have. I would like to talk about abortion, adoption and any other of the few choices they get. I am a mother and I have a very
interesting life now. My life has changed so much.

How my writing has improved.

I think that over the course of this year my writing has improved tremendously. At the beginning of this year I did not fully understand how to rephrase a question, use my transitions nor how to write a opinion piece. I now fully understand how to use my transitions very well. I am pretty sure that I rephrase my questions better, at least I hope I do. I am doing better in writing. Also, this year we learned how to write a formal letter. I think that knowing how to write a formal letter will come in handy in my future and most likely in others. Oh yes, before I forget my spelling has improved tremendously. Also, when I spell "a lot" it is no longer alot. Next year I would like to learn how to make my opinion pieces shorter but just as meaningful. Also, I would like to learn how to spell better. I would also like to know my parts of speech more then I do now.

Favorite Opinion Piece

MP
MP

I am not fully sure which was my favorite. I know that my best grade was on the one that the school board was considering having four day school weeks, and extending the other school days. I had a very strong opinion about that subject. I think that at this moment in time I would adore this because that would mean more time with my son to watch him grow and play. On the other hand, I would hate this when my son starts school. I will be having a job that is most likely five day a week job. If my son only had a four day school week than where would he go on Friday? Would I need to find a babysitter, or maybe leave him home. I know that I would find a babysitter, but this means I need to give the person money to hold my spot every week even though I only use it once a week. If you think for one moment some parents will not leave their child(ren) home alone, you are wrong. Not every person can afford a babysitter or daycare, others just do not care. Would you want be the person to make the desision for some children to stay home alone? I know that I wouldn't. So I do not like the sound of a four day school week. I got my highest grade on this opinion piece. I think I could have done better.
