Reclusive Emily E. Dickinson

Today in class we read Into the Wild, and we talked about recluses. The New Oxford American Dictionary a recluse is "a person who lives a solitary life and tends to avoid other people." The class was given three different people that are from the literary world and I picked Emily Elizabeth Dickinson. Emily was born on December 10, 1830 and she died on May 15, 1886. Some people that inspired Emily are William Shakespeare, Henry W. Longfellow, Jane Erye and many others. Emily was renown for her poetry, some of her works are "A Stopped Clock" "Good Night" "My Nosegays" and many many more. You can read some of her work here. Emily withdrew from society by not leaving her fathers house very often, she only took about five trips out of town, she refused any visitors to come and see her, Emily did have lovers but they were few and she never married.
Emily and Chris McCandless are similar to me because they both did not want to deal with the people of the city, Emily did not want to leave her fathers house but Chris did, he wanted to leave as soon as he could and just go, Chris did not want anything to do with his family and the only people Emily did want to talk to is her family.
In Emily's life the Texans defend the Alamo, the Gold Rush, slavery was abolished, the plague and many more things.
A quote from Emily "
Because I could not stop for death, He kindly stopped for me; The carriage held but just ourselves and immortality."
